Nursing Home Bedsores

Kansas City Nursing Home Bed and Pressure Sore Lawyers

At Dollar, Burns & Becker, L.C., we represent family members who are concerned about the lack of care their loved ones are receiving in nursing home facilities. We offer compassionate services as we aggressively pursue favorable outcomes. As advocates for injured people, our passion for justice extends beyond recovering compensation for our clients. As advocates for injured people, we are persistent in our pursuit of active measures to make fundamental changes to the nursing home care system. We strive to stop nursing homes from falsifying records, understaffing their facilities, and ultimately contributing to the lack of respect and dignity that our elderly population deserves. We fight for victim's rights by supporting legislative reforms and candidates for public office who will fight for victims' rights.

Bed sores, also known as pressure sores or decubitus ulcers, are painful sores when allowed to develop and if untreated, they can lead to death. Our firm of trial attorneys has a nationwide reputation of representing injured people. If you would like to speak with an attorney about bedsores and nursing home neglect, contact our St. Louis, Missouri, attorneys. We offer free consultations and attorneys' fees on contingency. Anyone who suspects abuse or neglect should also call the Elder Abuse Hotline through the Department of Health and Senior Services at 1-800-392-0210.

Bed Sores are Preventable

Nursing home staff must determine the needs of each resident. A person who is in a wheelchair will have different needs than a person who can walk. A person who cannot turn over without assistance will require more help than a person who can turn over on their own. The nursing home staff must assess each patient and meet their needs.

Stages of Bed Sores in Nursing Home Residents

Bed sores may not be immediately noticeable, because clothes and sheets cover up the parts of the body that are affected. If caught early, bed sores can be treated. If they go unattended, they could eventually lead to death.

Bed sores are categorized in the following 4 stages:

  • Stage 1 The bed sores may itch or hurt and be red, blue, or purple, depending on the person's pigmentation.
  • Stage 2 The bed sore will start to look like a blister or cut.
  • Stage 3 The tissue damage deepens, with a "crater like" appearance.
  • Stage 4 Muscles, bones, and joints become affected.
